Shafon has a rare
genetic disorder
called
mucopolysaccharidosis
type six (MPS VI).
She stands about two
feet tall and weighs
about 40 pounds. She
has severe hearing
and vision
impairment and has
lost the use of her
voice because she
must breath through
a tracheostomy tube
placed in her |
|
throat.
Shafon just
celebrated her 17th
birthday. She wasn’t
supposed to live
past ten years of
age so everyday is a
blessing. What also
makes Shafon special
is that she attends
public school, and
works two part time
jobs at Wal-Mart and
Joann’s Fabrics.
This |
|
documentary explores
the life and trials
of this
extraordinary young
woman. And although
her life would never
be as fulfilling as
we interpret our
lives to be, she
represents hope and
a never ending
search for love and
happiness in a body
not of her own
choosing.
